WordPress is probably more known as a blog platform but it can also make a pretty slick website as well. WordPress has simply a huge following and more template designs than you could throw the proverbial stick at. We use wordpress for our client blog sites, and is easy for the novice to use.
WordPress has many plugins available for it covering more functionality than we could ever list here, is wordpress the best blogging platform on the planet? That is a big question with so many open source platforms available it is a hard call, it certainly does have an almost cult following but is it the best? Maybe why don’t you give us your thoughts on that.
Drupal is open source software maintained and developed by a community of hundreds of thousands of users and developers. It’s distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (or “GPL”), which means anyone is free to download it, share it with others, and contribute back to the project. This open development model means that people are constantly working to make sure Drupal is a cutting-edge platform that supports the latest technologies that the Web has to offer.
Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone. Since Joomla is so easy to use, as a Web designer or developer, you can quickly build sites for your clients. Then, with a minimal amount of instruction, you can empower your clients to easily manage their own sites themselves.
CMS Made Simple™ is an open source ( GPL) package first released in July 2004. Its built using PHP that provides website developers with a simple, easy to use utility to allow building small-ish (dozens to hundreds of pages), semi-static websites. Typically our tool is used for corporate websites, or the website promoting a team or organization, etc. This is where we shine. There are other content management packages that specialize in building portals, or blogs, or article based content, etc. CMS Made Simple™ can do much of this, but it is not our area of focus.
In laymen’s terms, MODx helps even regular individuals manage content on their websites simply, quickly and intuitively. For the geek-elite, MODx is an Open Source PHP web application framework with a capable built-in Content Management System (CMS).
